SJDC Overseas Experiences
At Sophie Jean Dance Company, we strive to provide our dancers as many opportunities as possible! On top of competitive work, end of year recital, guest workshops & community performances, we wanted to give our dancers the chance to step outside their comfort zone and experience Pre-Professional dance classes, dance studio exchanges, Broadway shows/musicals and so much more!
Every 2nd year or so, we will be doing an overseas International dance trip for dancers ages 14+. There will be an application process involved (writing a small page on why you would like to go, fundraising involved, parent meetings etc).
So far we have done a trip to Canada & a trip to London training at Pineapple Dance studios followed by travelling to France, Belgium.
The next trip we are looking at doing is Canada in 2027.
See past trips below.
London/France/Belgium 2025
In July 2025 a group of 5 Senior dancers from SJDC travelled to London, France & Belgium.
We primarily did our dancing in London, where the dancers/teachers got to take a week long of drop in professional dance classes at Pineapple dance studios. We also saw 2-3 West End Broadway Musicals/Shows. We then carried on our travel to France & Belgium for a few days to site-see before headed home!

Canada 2018
In July 2018 a group of 8 Senior dancers from SJDC travelled to Canada to attend a summer dance camp. The students were immersed in a busy week of all genres of dance including Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Acro, Partnering & Lifts and Choreography. This experience was so much fun and they have made lifelong friends at the Mac Island Dance Studio.
They also got to do a dancer exchange and stay a week at another dance family's house in Canada so they could make friendships that last a lifetime and dance all week with them!
We are going to be continuing with our Canada dance trips as soon as the world opens up and allows for safe travel! Our next trip to Canada will be to Toronto to do a full week of classes learning all different genres.
